MOST WANTED
by Laura Mazzuca Toops

It’s the 1980s, and actor Craig Anatra had a Maserati, a house in the Hills, and a starring role in a TV detective show. Fast forward to the TikTok era, and Craig is invisible, irrelevant, and living above a dive bar in Chicago. Desperate to reignite his career (and supplement his Social Security), he works the nostalgia convention circuit while writing a bogus autobiography that he hopes will grab the interest of the true-crime crowd. But when a mysterious internet sleuth uses Craig’s own fabrications to accuse him of being a serial killer, Craig finds himself in a real-life fight for his life. This dark comedy juxtaposes the absurdity of modern-day fame with the realities of growing old as Craig struggles to clear his name — and along the way, finds his own unique form of redemption.

About the Playwright

Laura is a Midwest-based actor, director, and playwright who is involved in all aspects of local community theater. Her two-act comedy, “Crossing Over,” (Eldridge Plays and Musicals) has been performed at schools and theaters across the country, and her one-act drama, “Bread and Roses,” was a finalist in the 2025 New Works performance at Heartland Theatre Company, Normal, Ill. She is committed to developing more quality acting opportunities for older actors that focus on their strength, resiliency and world wisdom. Cheers!
A little intrigue, a little comedy, a little mystery, a couple of plot twists, and a little nostalgia make this a most enjoyable play. It’s nice, especially for community theater, that the main leading characters are seniors. However, this play is cleverly written so that it would be appropriate for all audiences. The characters are likeable, and the story moves along nicely to a surprising conclusion. A real find!
