ATTACK OF THE SHAKESPEARE FAIRY
by Joel Trinidad

Desperate for help with their impenetrable Shakespeare homework, three high school students use a magical necklace to summon an enchanted (and slightly irascible) being known as The Shakespeare Fairy. Using his magical powers, he grants each of them one Shakespeare-related wish; and while they ace their assignment as a result, they soon realize that getting what you wish for isn’t always a good thing. But how to get things back to normal when the necklace has been confiscated by the principal?

About the Playwright

A veteran of English-language theater in the Philippines, Joel Trinidad has lately shifted his focus to include writing for the stage. His first major work, the libretto for BREAKUPS & BREAKDOWNS, was quickly followed by a string of other produced pieces, including the monologue plays UNSPEAKABLY YOURS (a lighthearted comedy about women’s underarms) and BREAKING THE SILENCE (a serious look at women’s reproductive rights); the whimsical teen-oriented comedies THE STORYTELLERS and CLOSE ENGKANTOS OF THE CHRISTMAS KIND (both celebrations of pre-colonial Filipino mythology); the historical musicals GUADALUPE and SINGAPURA; the romantic comedies A TALE OF TWO, NIGHT SHIFT, MY SUITE PRINCESS, and AFTER EVER AFTER; and the musical versions of ATTACK OF THE SHAKESPEARE FAIRY and FAIRY TALE RESCUE, the two plays featured in this collection. Joel has also written over 100 short pieces, many of which have been produced not just in the Philippines, but also in London and all over the United States. He currently resides in New York City. joeltrinidad.com
