In da boogie down Bronx three teenagers find themselves at the crossroads of their young lives, Wilton Fernandez fresh from juvenile prison returns to the neighborhood where all his troubles began trying desperately to put back the pieces of what remains of the family life he nearly destroyed with an act of violence and destruction as his cousin, Yazmin Garcia, a Bronx chica cornered in the dark of night finds herself trapped by her own real life existence and tries to escape in the arms of someone she believes is her guardian angel and standing in between them is Jamal Faulkner, the perfect student with the brightest of futures but the pull of the street life is almost too strong to resist. If the dreams of the Bronx ever came to life the east river will run red.

About the Playwright

Mel Nieves is a New York City based and raised actor-playwright-screenwriter-arts educator. He is a graduate of The William Esper Studio and a long time member of the award winning LAByrinth Theater Company and The Actors Studio Playwright-Director Unit. He a 2017 semi-finalist for The Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference and a two semi-finalist (2017-2019) for The New Dramatist Princess Grace Playwright Fellowship. His work has a playwright has been presented in New York, San Diego, Chicago and Los Angeles. His play, “Frederick Douglass and The Fallen Angels” was selected for Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s The Mix. His one hour pilot script, “On The Boulevard” was a 2021 Creative World Award finalist, a 2020 HollyShorts Screenplay Competition semi-finalist, a 2020 Francis Ford Coppola American Zoetrope Screenplay competition quarter finalist and a 2020 Los Angeles International Screenplay award quarter finalist and a 2021 Hollywood International Diversity Film festival semi-finalist. His plays, “Prospect Avenue”, “The Spirit, The Body & The Blood” and “In Da Boogie Down” are published by Next Stage Press.
