IN THE FRAME

Karen, in her mid-forties, is a famous female prize-winning novelist. She has made arrangements to meet Alan, in his twenties, the son she gave up at birth. They are meeting in a very nice hotel room in Chicago, a neutral territory for them both. She has been looking forward to this get together hoping to make a permanent connection. Her son though has other thoughts although at first it looks like he is planning to have an enjoyable meeting and he has even brought his camera with him to make a record of the big day as well some of her books for her to autograph.

About the Playwright

Donald Steele began writing plays in college. Other plays of his have been published and some of this work can be seen on YouTube by going to TRANSITIONS Donald Steele. Three of his monologues have been published by Smith Krauss in its Best of… series. Three other plays have been published by Concord (formerly Samuel French). His full length play GRACELAND was in the 2004 Fringe Festival in New York where it was one of seven plays to receive a prize. Some of his other one acts have been performed in other Fringe Festivals both here in America and in Canada. Two of his short plays were Finalists for the Heideman Award at Actors Theatre of Louisville. He lives in New York City and is a Member of the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire.
